The NHS 111 service is a free NHS telephone number that makes it easier for the public to access local healthcare.
The service operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.
Calls to 111 are assessed, advice given and, if needed, patients are directed to the most appropriate local health services. This could be Accident and Emergency (A&E), an urgent care centre, an out of hours GP, a community nurse, a walk-in centre, an emergency dentist or a pharmacy.
There are now only three numbers to know: 999 for life-threatening emergencies, your GP surgery telephone number and 111. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct.
Calls to 111 are free, including from mobiles.
Use your local urgent care centre or walk-in centre if you need medical treatment or advice which does not need a visit to A&E.

Extra GP appointments in the evenings and at weekends are now available to Enfield patients.
You can book urgent and routine appointments, either same day or in advance with a local GP or nurse at any one of three primary care access hubs, making it much easier to get the care you need when you want it at a location that is convenient for you.
Who can access the service?Patients registered with an Enfield GP practice (or those resident in Enfield but who have yet to register with an Enfield GP practice) can book an appointment at the service.
What are the opening times?Hub opening hours are 6.30pm - 8pm weekdays and 8am - 8pm weekends and public holidays.
